To improve the efficiency of the liver and kidneys, we can engage in some healthy habits that will help in the removal of toxins.

HOW DOES DETOXIFICATION WORK?

Numerous detox diets are ranging from complete starvation fasting periods to juice fasts, to food adjustment strategies and those that frequently require the use of laxatives, diuretics, vitamins, minerals, and/or ‘cleansing foods”. All of these put undue strain on the body and only work temporarily.

Detox diets may severely restrict energy and nutrient consumption, causing many health hazards. Some people should never go on a detox diet.

There is no medical science that can endorse this method, though.

THEN WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?

Detoxification should be regarded as a lifestyle change that promotes eating healthy foods. It cleans the body while also nourishing and recharging it. One should initially focus on lowering the toxic load in the body before eating foods that would provide healthy nutrients and help in replenishing the body.

Also, just because we can't prevent all environmental toxins doesn't mean they have to be harmful to our health. We simply need to ensure that our bodies natural detoxification processes are working at full efficiency. Let's go over the five ways your body detoxifies EVERY DAY...

5 NATURAL WAYS OF DETOXIFICATION

Skin: Your skin is the largest organ of your body! It’s also an excellent outlet for your body to excrete toxins. You can actually excrete some toxins through your sweat that are difficult to eliminate any other way. That’s why sweating it out at the gym or using a sauna are both excellent for your health.

Lungs: Lots of people don’t realize that breathing is another way the body can cleanse. Deep breathing exercises, yoga, and exercise are all excellent ways to boost detoxification through your lungs. Bonus for breathing in fresh forest air.

Liver: Your liver is the central hub of your body’s detoxification processes. Hundreds of enzymes work day and night to neutralize harmful toxins and convert them into forms that you can easily eliminate through the kidneys or bowels. The liver executes so many biochemical pathways that depend on vitamins and nutrients that nutrition is key to supporting liver function.

Bowels: Your bowels don’t only eliminate fibre and bits of undigested food. They also eliminate toxins that have been processed by the liver and prepared for disposal from the body. Regular daily bowel movements are KEY to detoxification. Ways to support this include eating more fibre and drinking plenty of water.

Kidneys: Whereas some toxins tend to be eliminated from the bowels, others are eliminated through urination. This is why it’s so important to stay hydrated. Drink at least half your body weight in ounces (and more if living at a high altitude or exercising.

COMMON SIGNS OF DETOXIFICATION

Even though our bodies have the power to self-cleans once in a while, they also give us signals when more help is required. Toxins are removed from your body as soon as they enter your body by your immune system, kidneys, and liver.

Toxins that exceed the body's ability to remove them, are kept inside us for long periods unless we take action to remove them.

Toxins, as we all know, are harmful foreign substances that enter the body. If it is not removed by the immune system, it can be kept in the body for years without presenting any symptoms. It is only when the toxin levels rise to the point that the body isn't able to keep pace with them that you start undergoing different symptoms, indicating the need for detoxing.

Toxins originate in the following places:

Environmental toxins: These toxins are typically found in industrial settings where automobiles, water, and air pollution, radiation, pesticides, and herbicides are present, as well as in cleaning products, hair sprays, perfumes, and make-up which is available at home.

Lifestyle toxins: Lifestyle toxins typically come from chemical compounds that we put into our bodies like sugar, prescription medicines, highly processed food items, alcohol, caffeine, and smoking.

Metabolic reactions: When our bodies start to break down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, they produce poisonous waste. When a diet does not comprise sufficient nutrients, the toxins accumulate in the body.
